Outlook - Epic Add-In - Errors in Outlook

Problem

Users may encounter errors or functionality issues with the Epic add-in within Outlook. This guide outlines steps to diagnose and resolve common problems to restore proper integration between Outlook and Applied Epic.

Solution

Switch to Browser Mode in the Epic Add-in

  • Open Microsoft Outlook.

  • Locate the Attach to Epic button on the ribbon. Click the small arrow in the corner of the button.

  • Select Switch to Browser from the dropdown menu.

Verify the URL for Epic Access

  • In the URL input field that appears, enter: http://FOYIN01.AppliedEpic.com (or the specific server URL provided by IT/Applied Epic administrator).

  • Select your preferred web browser from the dropdown list (such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox).

  • Close the URL entry window.

Switch Back to Desktop Mode

  • Click the arrow next to the Attach to Epic button again.

  • Select Desktop mode to return to the native Outlook integration.

  • Close the window by clicking the X button.

Restart Outlook

  • Fully close and reopen Outlook to refresh the add-in environment.

  • Verify if the error message or issue no longer appears.

Additional Troubleshooting and Best Practices

  • Update Outlook and Epic Add-in: Ensure both Microsoft Outlook and the Applied Epic add-in are updated to their latest versions. Outdated versions can cause compatibility issues. Check Microsoft 365 updates and Applied Epic’s update portal regularly.

  • Verify Add-in Activation: In Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins. Confirm that the Epic add-in is listed under Active Application Add-ins. If it’s under Disabled or Inactive, enable it through Manage COM Add-ins.

  • Clear Outlook Cache: Sometimes cached data can cause issues. Clear the Outlook cache by closing Outlook, deleting cache files, and restarting.

  • Network and Server Access: Confirm that the Epic server URL (http://FOYIN01.AppliedEpic.com ) is accessible from your network and there are no firewall or proxy restrictions blocking communication.

Always back up any important Outlook data before performing troubleshooting steps involving add-ins.
