Computer - Hibernation mode
Problem
Issues related to a laptop stuck in or entering hibernation mode.
Solution
Confirm that the laptop is entering hibernation mode, especially when the battery level is low. Hibernation saves your session to disk and powers off the laptop to preserve battery.
Ask the user to turn on the laptop normally by pressing the power button once.
If the laptop does not respond or fails to wake from hibernation:
Verify that the laptop is properly connected to power (charger plugged in and working).
Instruct the user to press and hold the power button for about 5-10 seconds to force a complete shutdown.
Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to start the laptop.
If the laptop still does not wake up or power on:
Remove the battery if possible (for removable battery models), disconnect power, then hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power. Reconnect battery and power, then try turning it on again.
For laptops with non-removable batteries, ensure power is connected and try a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button for 10-15 seconds.
If problems persist, check the laptop's BIOS/UEFI power management settings to ensure hibernation is enabled and correctly configured.
Consider updating power management drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from the laptop manufacturer’s official support site to address known issues with sleep or hibernation modes.
Avoid closing the lid or leaving the laptop idle for extended periods without saving work, as improper shutdowns can cause hibernation issues.
