Computer - Webcam not working

Problem

This article provides instructions on how to fix webcam issue on a workstation.

Solution

  1. Identify the webcam’s make and model for further troubleshooting.

  2. Got to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras. Verify the camera is in the section Connected cameras.

  3. Close any applications that may be using the webcam.

  4. Open Device Manager and run it as an administrator.

  5. Locate the webcam device, check for any warnings (yellow triangles), and update its driver if a newer version is available.

  6. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, find the camera-related app, and select Advanced Options.

  7. Scroll down and click Reset to restore default settings for the camera.

  8. Ensure that applications are allowed to access the camera by going to Start > Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

  9. Restart the computer to apply any changes made.

  10. Check for a physical camera shutter or cover. If present, move it to ensure the camera lens is unobstructed.

  11. Test the webcam functionality again to confirm the issue is resolved.

  12. If the issue persists, consider reinstalling the webcam driver or performing a system restore if recent updates might have caused the issue.
