Problem

This guide helps users troubleshoot common issues such as boot problems, cursor or navigation issues, and keyboard malfunctions.

Common issues include:

  • Laptop won’t boot or power on properly

  • Cursor or navigation problems (unresponsive or erratic mouse behavior)

  • Keyboard not responding or certain keys not working

Solution

  1. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force the computer to shut down.

  2. Disconnect all peripheral devices, such as external mouse, keyboard, charger, USB devices, and docking stations.

  3. Reconnect only the charger, then power on the laptop and observe if the issue persists.

  4. If the laptop powers on but the issue continues, reconnect peripherals one at a time to identify if a device is causing the problem.

For boot issues, if the laptop fails to start or shows error messages, check for BIOS/UEFI recovery options or advise a hard reset by removing the battery (if removable) and power source for a few minutes.

For cursor/navigation problems, verify if the touchpad is enabled. This can usually be toggled with a function key (Fn + F7 or Fn + F9 depending on the manufacturer).

For keyboard issues, confirm if any function lock keys are on, and test an external keyboard if available to isolate hardware faults.
