Computer - Memory used up
Problem
The user experiences application crashes or system slowdowns due to insufficient memory. The system shows an “Out of Memory” error, interrupting work.
Solution
Confirm the exact issue and any error messages the user sees.
Restart the laptop to clear temporary memory and processes.
Check the available storage space on the system (C:) drive.
Perform Disk Cleanup to remove temporary files, system cache, and other unnecessary data.
Empty the Recycle Bin to free additional disk space.
Close unused applications and background processes to free up RAM.
Review installed applications and remove any that are not needed or consuming excessive resources.
Monitor system performance for ongoing slowdowns or application crashes.
If the problem continues, escalate to higher-level support for deeper diagnostics, such as checking for memory leaks or hardware issues.
Out of memory errors can refer to either insufficient RAM or low disk space, especially on the drive where the operating system is installed.
Modern operating systems use disk space as virtual memory (paging file)
For Windows laptops, the built-in Resource Monitor and Task Manager can help identify processes consuming excessive memory.
