Allworx - Use Intercom Feature

This article explains how to use the Intercom feature on an Allworx phone to initiate a direct, hands-free voice connection with another user’s extension.

Instructions

 

  1. Locate the Intercom Button

    • On most Allworx phones, the Intercom button is labeled and located on the main keypad or touchscreen display. If your phone does not have a dedicated Intercom button, the feature may be accessed through a programmable function key or soft key.

  2. Press the Intercom Button

    • This initiates the intercom mode, enabling you to make a direct call to another extension using speakerphone.

  3. Dial the Extension Number

    • Enter the three- or four-digit extension of the person you want to reach. Their phone will automatically go off-hook in speakerphone mode (unless configured otherwise), and they’ll hear your voice immediately without needing to answer.

Compatibility

  • The Intercom feature is available on all current Allworx IP phones, including the Verge and Connect series, when used with Allworx System Software version 7.5 or higher.

Configuration Requirements:

  • The intercom functionality must be enabled in the Allworx server configuration. This is usually set by the administrator in the Allworx Admin portal.

Privacy Settings:

  • Users can configure their phones to restrict auto-answer on intercom calls. This setting is available in the Allworx phone menu under Preferences > Auto Answer, or via the My Allworx Manager portal (if enabled).
