How to Manage Notifications in Microsoft Teams
Control which banners, emails, or feeds you receive for mentions, chats, team activity, and more.
Instructions
Prerequisites
Signed in to Teams (desktop or mobile).
Access Notification Settings (Desktop)
Click your profile picture (upper right) → Settings → Notifications.
Configure General Notifications
Mentions: Choose whether to receive Banner and feed, Only show in feed, or Off for @mentions.
Messages: Configure for Chat, Channel mentions, Replies, etc.
Team and Channel Activity: Set custom notifications per Team/Channel: click Edit next to the team name, choose All activity, Mentions & replies, or Off.
Email Notifications
Under Email, set frequency for “Missed activity emails” (e.g., As soon as possible, Daily digest, or Off).
Customize Appearance and Sounds
Toggle Show message preview, Play sound for notifications, or HTTP request (if using webhooks).
Mobile Notification Settings
Open Teams on mobile → tap Menu (≡) → Notifications.
Configure Push notifications for Chats, Mentions, Reactions, etc.
Optionally, tap During quiet time to schedule Do Not Disturb hours.
Quiet Hours / Quiet Days (Mobile Only)
In mobile Notifications, tap During quiet time, toggle Quiet hours, set start/end times.
Optionally set Quiet days (e.g., weekends). This suppresses push notifications during those times.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you’re not receiving notifications, ensure Focus assist (Windows) or Do Not Disturb (macOS) isn’t enabled globally.
If channel-specific notifications still come through, double-check the channel’s specific settings: hover over channel → ⋯ → Channel notifications.
If email digests aren’t arriving, verify spam/junk folders and ensure the email address in Teams settings is correct.
