Microsoft Teams - Error: Something went wrong

Problem

This article explains how to fix Microsoft Teams error Something went wrong [657rx] on a Windows computer. This error is usually caused by old sign-in information saved on the PC, a Teams cache problem, or an issue with the work or school account connection.

Solution

  1. Close Teams and all Microsoft 365 apps. If Teams is still running in the taskbar, right-click it and choose Quit.

  2. Clear the Teams cache by doing one of the following.

    • Teams: Reset the app in Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options > Reset

    • Delete the contents of this folder:

      %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

  1. Search for and open the application Get Help. In the search bar enter Sign in to Microsoft Office, and run the troubleshooter.

  2. Search for and open Credential Manager > Windows Credentials and remove any entries named MicrosoftOffice16.

  3. Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. If your work or school account is listed, disconnect it, restart your computer, then log in again with your current Trucordia account. Go back to the Access work or school page in settings again and verify the account is connected.

  4. If the issue continues, open File Explorer and delete the contents of these folders only:

    1. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\Accounts
    2. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.CloudExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\Accounts
    3. Restart your computer afterward.

  5. Open Teams and sign in again.

  6. If needed, repair Microsoft 365 using Online Repair from Installed apps or Apps and Features.
