Adobe - Unable to Open Files
Problem
Users experience issues opening files in Adobe Acrobat or are receiving an error message. This article provides information how to have it fixed.
Some file formats such as .JPG cannot be opened directly in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Use the appropriate software to view specific file types.
Solution
Verify File
Sometimes the file has a .pdf extension but is incomplete, corrupted, or is really another file type. A damaged PDF usually cannot be repaired directly. The best fix is to get a fresh copy or recreate it from the original source.
Save the file to your computer first, then open it from Acrobat.
If the file came from a website or email, download it instead of opening it inside the browser.
Set Acrobat as the default app for PDFs.
Right-click the file > Open with > Choose another app > pick Adobe Acrobat → click Always.
Update Adobe
Updating to the latest version can help.
Repair Adobe
Repair the installation within Adobe.
Disable Protected Mode if file is trusted
From Acrobat Reader, select Edit > Preferences.
Select Security (Enhanced) on the left pane.
Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode at startup box.
Select Yes to the prompt about being sure about making this change.
Click OK.
