This article provides information on how to troubleshoot wireless keyboard, mouse and combo set issues.
Instructions
Start with the Basics (Most Common Fixes)
o Reboot systemo Check Power
o Make sure both the keyboard and mouse are turned ON
o Look for a power switch on the underside
o Replace all batteries (even if they “seem fine”)
o Use new alkaline batteries, not rechargeable if possible
o Confirm battery orientation (+ / –)
o Weak batteries are the #1 cause of wireless combo failures.
o Check the USB Dongle
o Ensure the USB receiver (dongle) is plugged in firmly
o Try a different USB port
o Prefer ports directly on the PC (avoid hubs or docks initially)
o If using a desktop PC, try a rear USB port
Reconnect or Re‑Pair the Devices
o Reconnect or Re‑Pair the Deviceso Many combo sets lose pairing.
o Re‑sync the Combo
o Unplug the USB dongle
o Turn keyboard and mouse OFF
o Wait 10 seconds
o Plug the dongle back in
o Turn keyboard ON, then mouse ON
o Wait 30–60 seconds
o Some models also have a pair/connect button:
o Press and hold it for 3–5 seconds after plugging in the dongle
Test on Another Computer
o This helps isolate the problem.o Plug the dongle into another laptop or PC
o Works there → issue is with your original computer
o Doesn’t work → likely a faulty dongle or device
o Dongles are usually paired to that exact keyboard/mouse set and cannot be replaced with a
different one unless the manufacturer supports it.macOS
o Go to System Settings → USBo Verify the receiver appears
o If not:
o Try another USB port
o Restart the Mac
Determine If the Dongle Is Dead
o Signs the dongle has failed:o No LED activity (if applicable)
o Not detected on any computer
o Keyboard/mouse work with Bluetooth (if supported) but not dongle
