Instructions
Basic Physical Checks (Start Here)
o These eliminate the most common causes.o Unplug and reconnect the keyboard and mouse
o Use direct motherboard USB ports (rear ports on a desktop)
o Avoid USB hubs or docking stations during testing
o Try different USB ports
o If both devices fail on all ports, suspect system/driver/BIOS
o If only one port fails, likely a bad USB port
o Check cables
o Look for fraying, bent connectors, or loose USB ends
o Test on another computer
o If they don’t work elsewhere → faulty keyboard/mouse
o If they work elsewhere → issue is the original computer
o If either device works on another PC, continue below.
Hard Reset / Power Drain
Useful for laptops and desktops with USB issues.
Desktop
o Shut downo Unplug power cable
o Hold power button for 15–20 seconds
o Reconnect power and boot
Laptop
o Shut downo Unplug charger
o Remove battery (if removable)
o Hold power button 15–20 seconds, then power back on again
