Security - Computer Removable Media Policy

We have implemented a change that will disable the ability to write, read, and execute from removable media. This includes flash drives, removable hard drives, SD cards, and phones connected to Trucordia devices. This change will not affect direct-connect printers, audio and visual devices, mice and keyboards, internet adapters (wired and wireless), or webcams.

An exception request process is available for business needs requiring access to removable media. The form can be found here: Removable Media Policy Exception Request – Fill out form.

Overview

  • Cybersecurity Protection. Blocking removable media reduces the risk of malware infections and data breaches, as external devices can carry malicious software.

  • Compliance and Regulatory Requirements. Many industries require strict data protection; limiting removable media helps maintain compliance.

  • Minimized Insider Threats. Restricting removable media reduces potential misuse of company data by employees.

  • Control Over Data Management. Centralizes data oversight, improving tracking of data access and usage.

  • Reduced Support Costs. Decreases IT troubleshooting related to removable media, saving time and resources.

  • Improved Operational Security. Strengthens overall security posture, creating a safer environment for handling sensitive information.
