Windows - RDP Audio Setup

This article explains how to enable audio playback and microphone recording when using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

Instructions

 

  1. On the local machine (the one you're connecting from), open Remote Desktop Connection.

  2. Click Show Options > Local Resources tab > Settings under Remote audio.

  3. Under Remote audio playback set it to Play on this computer.

  4. To use a microphone, under Remote audio recording set it to Record from this computer.

  5. On the remote machine go to Settings > Sound Settings.

  6. Verify that there is an audio output and input device.

The sound settings will reset after you close the remote session. To avoid this:

  • Set up audio as described above.

  • Click on General tab > Save As to create a custom configuration file.

  • In future sessions open Remote Desktop Connection > Open > select the saved configuration file, then connect.
